On May 15th, the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association released the "White Paper on the Development of China's Satellite Navigation and Location Services Industry (2019)". According to the white paper, the overall output value of China's satellite navigation and location service industry reached 301.6 billion yuan in 2018, an increase of 18.3% compared to 2017. The core output value of industries directly related to the research and application of satellite navigation technology, including chips, devices, algorithms, software, navigation data, terminal equipment, infrastructure, etc., reached 106.9 billion yuan, accounting for 35.44% of the total output value. Beidou contributed 80% to the core output value of the industry, and the related output value formed by satellite navigation derivatives reached 194.7 billion yuan.
The Beidou application market has shown a new round of rapid growth trend. Yu Xiancheng, President of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, introduced that by the end of 2018, the basic system of Beidou-3 had been completed and began providing global services, marking the official transition of the Beidou system from regional to global. On April 20, 2019, China successfully launched its 44th Beidou navigation satellite, marking the beginning of this year's Beidou high-density networking.
According to the white paper, as of the end of 2018, the cumulative application scale of various domestic Beidou terminal products has exceeded 80 million units/sets, and the total social ownership of terminal products using Beidou compatible chips is close to 700 million units/sets (including smartphones). Beidou applications are moving towards a new stage of "standardization" development in many fields. Navigation services based on Beidou have been adopted by e-commerce, mobile intelligent terminal manufacturing, location services and other manufacturers, and have widely entered the fields of mass consumption, sharing economy and people's livelihood.
The white paper shows that with the continuous improvement of positioning accuracy and further stability of chip performance and price in the Beidou system, and the further development of new technologies and economic models such as new generation information technology, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, and low-carbon economy, under the guidance of relevant policies, the segmented markets of smart cities, public safety, industrial and agricultural machinery, unmanned systems and other application fields have shown a new round of rapid growth trend.
